Supporting our Cause
We frequently hear stories of children and adults who desperately need a life-saving
stem cell transplant to replace damaged bone marrow. Sarah Watkin, a Markham girl,
was diagnosed with leukemia when she was five years old. After chemotherapy
and radiation, her doctors, family and friends searched for a stem cell donor. Sadly,
unable to find a donor, she passed away last Christmas. Currently, Michael Daykin,
a 37 year old father-to-be with leukemia also needs a bone marrow transplant.
Unfortunately, his mixed ancestry makes it difficult for him to find a match. Stem
cells derived from umbilical cord blood provide the greatest hope for Michael and
those of us with unique tissue types.
This event, Live and Let Live, supports a unique Canadian charity, Victoria Angel
Registry of Hope. With your financial support, we can give hope and help to the
thousands of people around the world who need a stem cell transplant. We accept
donated umbilical cord blood from new parents and their babies. Your financial support
will pay to safely extract, freeze and tissue-type these stem cells so that more patients,
like Sarah and Michael, can receive the life-saving treatment they so urgently need.
